Linux Patches and Updates

I stated a small hosting company. I started off with a reseller account. I am moving to co-location. I am going to be using Linux Red hat 9.0 and Cpanel. I had two questions. 1)Does anyone know if Cpanel is GPL, meaning that I am not required by law to buy a license from them and 2) I have not installed Linux yet (I will be installing it later today). I have no Linux experience. I will learn from "Playing Around" and I will be mainly using only WHM and Cpanel. I wanted to know how to stay up to date with all the new Linux patches, security updates etc. From what I heard Linux does not have a Linux Update button (like in Microsoft Windows). Is there any program that I can install that will take create of the updates for me ? If there isn't is there any email lists or websites that can keep me up do date. Please email me and let me know. Dovid@ServerHighway.com.
Thanx a lot.

RH has up2date, it is like Windows Update. I believe that you have to purchase RH to use it. Also I think that it is a yearly subscription too.

Do you know if there any free programs that will allow me to update it. Right now I can't afford to purchase Red Hat. I am really tight on money. Is there any other program that will do the job and is there any way that I can get Red Hat's updater free ?

Not that I know of. I do know the Mandrake 8.2 has an updater and it is free. Also you could look at Slackware. The post there up dates in the current directory. I use Slack after using MD and RH. I found them buggy and bloated. But haven't used RH since 7.3 and MD since 8.2,

A demo entitlement for Red Hat Network is free. You would need to respond to a short survey every two months in order to extend the demo account.

Alternative package utilities like yum, apt-rpm, autorpm [and more] will not give you access to Red Hat Network and its features.

howzit

open the mozilla web browser u will find a button that says Red Hat Network this will take u to their up2date web site u may register with them free of charge. This will update u re box with all security and bug related patches. Of course there is a catch u are only entitled to one machine for active updates and every 2-3 months u will receive a mail asking to recertify the account.

In other words no charge for updates
