libata with 2.4.29
Hello,
Sorry if I'm repeating a previous question but I haven't been able to find an answer to this.
I've installed RedHat 7.3 on a Dell Precision 370 which has the Intel ICH6 sata controller. I managed this by setting it to combination mode. However, performance is very bad, for example, DMA doesn't work, so I'd like to set it back to AHCI. A Serial ATA FAQ I read recomended installing kernel 2.4.27 or later which it states "includes libata", so using the excellent "Red Hat custom Kernel compilation mini-How-To for Red Hat 8-9" at the top of this forum, I downloaded and installed 2.4.29. I've rebooted to test the kernel which was successful. However, rebooting with the controller set back to AHCI does not work - same problems as with the default RedHat kernel.
Does anyone know if theres anything else I'm supposed to do to enable libata? I looked through all the menus when I ran xconfig but didn't find anything relating to it. Searching on the internet I found some talk of applying patches but don't know how to do this.
Any help would be very greatfully recieved.
Thanks
Simon
