How to disable the xserver.


Hi,
How do I disable the xserver.
I do not want to open when I boot up.
I want to make it so I have to open it when I want it.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.
As root edit the /etc/inittab file and change the following line
id:5:initdefault:
to
id:3:initdefault:

This changes the runlevel from 5 to 3 which will boot the system without x.

To start x type in the command
startx
