How many open file descriptor possible in RHEL 4.4

Hi people,
can somebody please tell me what is max limit of open file descriptor in RHEL 4.4.

You can type "ulimit -n" to get a PER-PROCESS limit of file descriptors. I don't believe there is a system-wide limit.

Edit: I just found this page: http://www.cs.wisc.edu/condor/condor...alability.html. Apparently there is a system-wide limit. "cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max" will show it.

but as i saw following lines in the link you given above

To see the current limit:

cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max

To set the limit, as root run the following, replacing 32768 with your desired limit.

echo 32768 > /proc/sys/fs/file-max

by this we can always increast the max limit....
so m curious about what is the extreme limit over open file descriptor ???
