How do I map/mount a network resource?

In RH9 how do I map to a network share in a Windows 2000 domain?

Also, I've install everything on the 3 RH9 CDs that came with the "RH Linux Bible", but when I try to run "iptables" bash says it cannot find it nor can I when I use "search for file...". Where/how can I get iptables?

Thanks

If you want to map a Windows share in a Windows Domain you need to join the domain (I think). Then type mount -t smbfs -o username=<username>,password=<password> //<pc name>/<sharename> /<path to directory to be mounted>

You need to make sure that iptables is running. There should be a service manager. Open it up and find iptalbes and start it.

Under RH9, why not simply open up a Nautilus window and type:
smb:/// to see which servers are in your network.

When I do "smb:///" I get the following msg:

Couldn't display "smb:///", because Nautilus cannot contact the SMB master browser.
Check that an SMB server is running in the local network.

With Mandrake 9.1 I'm just able to browse the network and select the share that I want to mount. This indicates to me that the problem is with RH not the network, correct?

thanks.

Checked, iptables service is running, but bash says "command not fund"

Any other suggestions?

Shouldn't there be a file/app somewhere called "iptables.*"? I have searched for "iptables.*" and only file it finds is "iptables.8.gz" which does not seam to be it.

Tanks.

You also can type smb://<servername>/<share>

Mind you that if you don't have WINS it my take a little bit to show up the contents (prior login verification)

We don't have a WINS server. We use DNS and DHCP. Why can I browse the network with Mandrake 9.1 but not with RH9? I don't have Mandrake up, but there is something about a "Network neighborhood" (win terminology) where I can browse the network, but no such beast in RH that I can find?

BTW I had to manually RPM lisa even though I installed all the network packages of the CD.

Thanks.

Take the smb.conf file from your Mandrake Machine and use it with the Red Hat machine.

Talking

Ok, I found the answer in another forum.

You can browse windows shares from Linux. The correct syntax is:
smb://computername
