editing conf files in red hat 8.0

Hi, I’m trying to edit the HTTPD conf file in red hat 8.0 but for some reason I am not able to edit or change any of the file (logged in as root), it only allows me to open and read it. This is also the same for other configuration files. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas how to solve this problem, I figure it must be to do with some security setting but as I am used to working in windows I' m not entirely sure what the cause is.
Thanks!
