cupsaddsmb - CUPS...again..aaarggh!

[root@vmredhat2 samba]# cupsaddsmb -H vmredhat2 -U root -a -v
cupsaddsmb: No PPD file for printer "nmw_test" - skipping!

ok. So I can print from my server to a lexmark T610. I can also print from my Windows XP box...as long as I install the driver file manually at that box...what I wish to do however and clicking on the shared printer on the network doesn't allow this..is to have the drivers install automatically - no intervention whatsoever!

I believe I'm 90% there and I beleive it's to do with where my ppd's are located as when I try to export the drivers to samba it says it can't find the ppd, as you can read..

I followed to the letter the following link:
enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netsysm/article.php/3621876[/url]

and it's a great help but I'm obviously missing somethiong regarding where the ppd should go. I currently have it at:
/usr/share/cups/drivers/nmw_test.ppd
and
/usr/share/cups/drivers/opt610.ppd
but no joy...any ideas??

I'm sure it's something simple.

Hmmm..why is this so hard?

A basic everyday requirement like network printing should not be so difficult. One would think that this aspect of Linux would have been made easier and more user friendly a long time ago.

Windows printing has managed this very successfully in our particular network serving over 5500 users and it is a VERY simple process to setup drivers from the Admin side and connect to a printer from the User side.

Why oh why is it so complex?
