Cannot find lilo.conf file

Hi all,

My system is RedHat 9 installed on it's own (i.e. not in a dual boot setup. I accepted the default automatic partitioning recommended by the install process).

I was trying to edit my lilo.conf file, but was unable to find it.

The steps I followed are:

1) Bring up a terminal window
2) Type "su" and enter my root password
3) I then typed "vi /etc/lilo.conf" and this opens vi and a new file i.e. there is nothing in the file at all.

I typed "cd /etc" and did an "ls -a lilo*". The only file I saw was lilo.conf.anaconda which I assume is used by the installer routine.

After going into the Control Centre > System Administration > Boot Manager (LILO) and making a change I could then see the file. I was just wondering why I couldn't see it before? Do you need to 'initialize' lilo or something to allow the configuration file to be seen?

Many thanks,
Ozwalker

More than likely this is due to RedHat using Grub by default

Moving to RedHat forum

Cool

When I recently installed Redhat 9, I installed Lilo instead of Grub. Upon first boot, I was suprised that /etc/lilo.conf wasn't there, but /etc/lilo.conf.anaconda was there instead.

I renamed the /etc/lilo.conf.anaconda to /etc/lilo.conf as /sbin/lilo doesn't recognize the anaconda part and all was well.

May not be the right thing to do, but it worked for me.
