I recently purchased a Dell server runing Red Hat ES, and wiped it to do a fresh install. I'm not a fan of the factory software installs.

What I had to greet me was a complete lack of the packages I needed to get the reinstall properly finished. After some work getting DKMS set up and running, I'm now stuck on the networking.

I installed the RPM for my BCom Nic card, but I am obviously missing an easy step in the setup process to make the network and internet function. When I try to activate the network, the computer tells me that my device doesn't seem to be present. I checked to make sure it's seeking the right one, and it isn't. However, my card isn't listed.

I thought I had enough understanding of Linux to get this set up, but now I'm resorting to the Explorer-type browser because I'm lost on commands. Any advice?

Did you do a network instalation?? I think Redhat ES 3 uses a default driver while network instalation and at first boot it tries to search the actuall driver...
I would had tried to remove all entries of current nic ( remove enrty from /etc/sysconfig/hwconf, /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth*, comment the entry of nic from /etc/modules) and then commit a kudzu.
