Installing applications

I have downloaded the google chrome browser in a pet pack file. The box appears that says successfully installed look in the internet section of the menu button to start the application. When i look in the menu where it is supposed to appear, it is not there. I suppose it is installed. I can the files in the root directory, but I can't seem to find a way to launch it. Is there some sort of default setting that locks the menu or something?

Lauching applications

Look in
/usr/share/applications
for your application and drag the icon to the desktop.
Right click, edit and change the description, if desired.
You can then click on this icon on the desktop and the application will start.

If this should fail, go to /root/.packages and open the text file for your application. It will show you the path to the executable.

Its working! Thank you very much. I am getting more used to the file system. It is a bit different than what I am used to in windows.
