I've been looking at Puppy as a lightweight Linux distro to install under VMware Player (on a Windows host).
I've got it installed, but I need the gcc compiler in order to get VMware Tools working, and I'm having difficulty finding it.
I use Red Hat (and Oracle) Linux commercially and also Ubuntu (and a couple of UNIXes), so I'm not really wanting to learn any more of another distro's finer details than I have to.
Could somebody please tell me in relatively simple terms how to install the gcc environment (gcc, make, headers) on Slacko?

Ok, you asked for it! And no, you did not do anything wrong.
Just get and load the devx and kernel source SFS files and that should give you the c compiler to use.
You can use SFS load on the fly to load them. They should be put in your /mnt/home directory.
You can find those files in the QuickPET section and it should have an icon on the desktop so you do not have to search for it.
