terminal IDE

hi all!

i'm new at C programming. i want to develop an aplication to run in terminal enviroment (not KDE).
i'd tried Kdevelop but it is too slow even for a simple "Hello word" program, it also performs a lot of tasks and that i don't understand.
i'm looking for a simple terminal based IDE (like DOS Borland C 3). i couldn't find any in the other posts.
In case that this kind of IDE does not exists, which could be the steps to replace an IDE ?

Thanks!
Tincho

The most popular IDE is vim, but using it for the first time is a little (or more) hard.
For the first time I recommend to use simply mc editor (mcedit, it's just an editor with nice highlightings), and then try "g++ -o Hello.execfile hello.cpp (if your file named hello.cpp).
For compiling C codes use gcc instead of g++.

Also there is a cool IDE mostly like Borland's IDE (turbo vision). Follow the links:

There is one: wpe / xwpe.

It's old, and not many people use it. It seems some people started maintaining it again, though their newest version is about 9 months old.

As you may know, in Linux normally programming / compiling is done with seperate programs for editing, compiling, debugging, etc. An IDE in Linux is also a seperate program, being a GUI that calls the compiler, linker, debugger....

For editing many people use emacs or vi / vim. Both have some nice features for programming. Both need to get used to if you're used to windows / msdos programming.

Anyway, wpe / xwpe tries to be such a Linux IDE with the looks of the Borland C-3.
And it works well in text-mode terminals.

I strongly advise you to go to either vim or emacs, as they are actually a standard and if you start using one or the other, you will get a mastery in their use(Good to impress others).

If you are into programming , this will be a great help to you as both these editors are very good IDE. Also, emacs is a complete IDE in that you can create, compile, run, debug and *** from inside emacs.

In fact, you can do all the thing you do using unix from emacs itself.
