Suggestions for programming enviroment

Hi

I normally code on my windows box in my basement and I'd like to be able to program on my linux laptop for greater mobility. I use debian 3.1 on a powerpc tibook. The only editor I have is "bluefish" which came with gnome but I'm looking for a good all-around programming enviroment that I can edit code with and then compile it. I use java, c and c++ most of the time so I'd like it to handle at least those three. Any suggestions for a good program would be fantastic and really helpfull. Thanks a lot.

http://eclipse.org
http://kdevelop.org

i use eclipse for java .. there is also the netbeans ide that comes with jdk, i have used it and it is very good as well.. but i would recommend eclipse..

eclipse also does c++ with a plugin, i believe it is called cdt ? i have never tried it. in c/c++ i prefer kdevelop for large projects and kate for small projects..

there are lots more ides out there and you will get a dozen opinions on this subject and the only way to know which one you like is to start downloading and installing.. after all, they are free..

I use kdevelop for almost all my C++ development

kate and gedit are nice for a small programme. I've not used Eclipse but it can manage C/C++ with the cdt plugin. Then there is Anjunta another C/C++ rival for Kdevelop.

"vi" and "make".

Don't forget the <tab> as the first character of each command line.

Who needs anything more ?

As was mentioned eclipse is a very popuplar choice. I also am quite fond of Anjuta (http://anjuta.sourceforge.net) espeically the "unstable" 2.x series.
