SSL connection to Linux

I am working on a project that is to add logic to a client application, written in Java, that will create a SSL Connection to a Linux server that is running UniData. I'm new to SSL and am trying to figure out how the Java logic needs to be written and how the Linux server needs to be setup to communicate with the client. Anyone have any input to assist me with this?

Thanks
