runInstaller

Got the following using the Oracle Universal Installer on Linux rh 7.1................Error in invoking target relink of makefile/home/stuart/OraHome1/Precomp/lib/ins_precomp.mk......................does anyone know what this means?????? And ... even better... how to fix it....pressing ignore does not work as I get a bunch of similar errors

thanks

OK...just got some help via email....can anybody translate this into newbie;

Check if you can relink any other executables, whether any other .mkfiles
have passed successfully. Normal cause for this is if the c compilereither
isn't installed, or isn't included in the path.

Otherwise, edit the .mk file and attempt to generate the target manuallyand
then follow the error message.

Are you sure this is runInstaller? That sounds more like an error message one would get with the older installer (like the one that comes with the Forms Server). I would check the release notes and make sure that you meet ALL of the requirements. Make sure you have all of your environment variables set. If you get past this error and the installer hangs and won't run, type 'unset LANG' and then proceed again. I can't say much else... my install went pretty smoothly. I would ask the question on a more Oracle specific forum as well....

http://otn.oracle.com/index.html
They have a discussion forum dealing with Oracle for Linux.

Also... USENET - comp.databases.oracle.tools, comp.databases.oracle.server,
and comp.databases.oracle.misc might help.

You might want to check what versions SuSE has of all the required libraries... they are a certified Oracle platform and the database runs really well on it. :-)
