Question Programming with Java and RSync

Hello every one, Hope you are all well.

I have a question what I hope you can advise me on, I currently have a Suse 10 server at my parents house and I have two windows xp computers at my home.

Currently I use a FTP protocol to back up information to the server in the remote location, but feel this is lacking pow. recently I have heard about Rsync and the wonders it preforms. I was interested in making my own program possibly in Java to help with my back ups.

My current education with programming is ability in Java and visual basic 6. Im best with VB6 but would like to use Java as it can be past across a lot of operating platforms.

In a simple sentence my question is has anyone worked with rsync and java and give guidance to me? Do you think working with a different programming language be better?

Thank you for any comments and your time,

simon

I'd probably use python myself, but you should be able to use Java as well. A few searches revealed a Java implementation of rsync called jarsync among other things: http://www.google.com/search?q=rsync...ient=firefox-a

Thanks for your reply Matir,

Can I ask why would you prefer doing this in python? is it much different to Java?

From what iv been told java is the best networking program.

I did manage to find the java rsync implementation what is found in your search too but was unsure if that was a client because of the huge number of files and different folders.

Thanks again
