Plug-in or Extension programming under linux/unix within c/c++ ?

Hi,all
I'm seeking a way to implement these fonctionality, I dont know how to call these, maybe plug-in or Extension.
For example, program A has two functions: one like bc,another like nmap. Then I want to add another function like wget into the program,so I must rewrite the source of A and recomplie A. So whenever I add a new function, I must rewrite the source and recomplie it.
What I want is something like plugin, A is only a management program, when i want to add a new function, i write it out of A, then A can call the function.
Sorry for my terrible English, hope enough clear
Can anybody tell me how to do?
Any infomation,manual,clue is welcomed!

Thanks~~

Use Dynamically Loaded libraries with dlopen/dlsym/dlclose.
