PHP password protect entire web directory


Is there any way to password protect a directory using PHP and not htaccess? Untimately, what I am trying to accomplish is an authentication script that can protect an entire web directory, however, the only way to protect an entire directory (that I have seen so far) is htaccess. Thanks for any help.

Yes, it is possible. I would suggest that you study the subject thoroughly as programming errors at that level will render your machine accessible to "unwanted visitors".
