Question php: connecting to ASA fails (with php_sybase)

I wonder if it's possible to connect to Sybase SQL Anywhere with php_sybase.

I have checked there's a service running at a given host (ip = 192.168.0.7, port = 2638 (which is the standard for ASA, right)), but I'm not able to connect by using sybase_connect(), though.

Anybody knows if it's not possible at all and I'll have to go with freeTDS?
