open a video file in c/c++


i need to open a video file to extracts frames and process them.
i need to do that in c or c++ on linux without x-windows.
the format of the file coud be avi or other.

how can i do that??

If I where you, I'd do it simply using ACDSee

thanks a lot
You can always just use mplayer and use the png video output target to have it export PNGs of each frame.
