Microsoft NMAKE tools compatible with older Windows installs?

Nmake from "Visual Studio 2013" compatible with older Windows installs? Post "Visual Studio 2012" requires "Windows 7" or newer; I'm wondering if I can use the resulting Nmake toolchain programs in previous Windows revisions (9x, 2000, xp, etc). Thanks and kind regards.

Have you read this?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp...?view=msvc-160

There are a good number of members here familiar with windows but, have you tried posting at a windows forum? I would expect/hope you would get better results there. I'm not familiar with the software so can't help any more. Good luck.

Thanks. I also got a nmake toolchain from Visual Studio 2012 beta (might be 2011) and requires MSVC110.

Unfortunately Windows 2000 isn't compatible and bombs out with "Not a valid Win32 application".

Server 2008 "32bit datacenter SP2" with desktop experience works. It's necessary to put required dlls in the same directory and/or adjust path accordingly. It's nice using this OS since it's 32bit and allows full memory space ([s]xtxhxixnxk ixtx[/s] works with at least [s]x1x2x8x[/s] 64GB gigabytes ram).

Pending: test Windows 2000, XP and server 2003 with latest service packs, and "2008 core" and "PE recovery".

edit 03-17-2021:
XP with Service Pack 3 gives same error; "Not a valid win32 application.". Vista and Server 2008 seem to be the minimum requirement for using NMake toolchain from Visual Studio 11 (12 beta).
