Makefile to compile in C++ in 64-bit memory/mode

Hi all,
I am now using icc9 (will migrate to icc10 in next few weeks) to compile my C++ source code. I compile it in both linux suse 32-bit and 64-bit machines separately and it was force to compile in 32-bit memory/mode. My question is what should i change in my makefile in order to compile my code in 64-bit memory/mode by using 64-bit machine? Thanks for any help from you all....

I don't run a 64 bit at the moment but I thought the default was to compile 64 on 64 unless 32 was asked for?
Is it as easy as -m32 and -m64.

When I setenv for PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH to link to 64-bit compiler and compile my code, i get an error message as below:
/usr/include/g++/iosfwd(45): catastrophic error: could not open source file "bits/c++config.h"
#include <bits/c++config.h>
^

What is that mean?
