Linux boot issue

Hi All,

This is Madhav, Iam looking some solution on the boot up issue Iam facing while booting up the Linux 2.6.34 kernel compiled for X86 processor. Here is some information about my expriment.

Iam intrested to learn linux kernel programming and I took my old PC as an experiment box and installed Federo core as a development environment and downloaded and linux 2.6.34 kernel soruce code tree and compiled with make defconfig for X86 and given make install.

As a result , I was able to see a new entry in boot menu (Grub bootloader).

If I try to boot the new compiled linux kernel it crashes with the following message and call trace.

Swapper Used greatest stack depth: 6576 bytes left
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init
Pid 1, comm: swapper Tainted: G D 2.6.34 #1
Call Trace :
panic+0x3c/0xa8
do_exit+
.......

My PC details

i686 processor
pentium 3
128 MB RAM

Please help me to resolve this boot up problem.

Thanks,
Madhav.

first fedora dropped the "core" from it's name WAY back in fedora 5

also with a p3 and 128 ram there is NO version of fedora that can install on such OLD hardware

do not even try to install fedora on that -- it will NEVER install correctly ! ( you might be able to force it into a text only install but.... )

now you might be able to install " damn small linux" or "Puppy linux "
and maybe Knoppix

as to the kernel ????
well if you did install one of the very old and dead "core" versions in text only
then for the NEW kernel you would need to rebuild EVERY program that depends on the kernel -- hint - EVERYTHING
