Learn device programming in Linux

Hi Guys

I am using Linux for many years. My knowledge is limited to Linux server administration, proxy server, sendmail, postfix, Qmail and many more. I want to learn device programming using Linux, like mobile, TV remote and many more hand held devices using native linux programming language. I have basic programming knowledge of C.

Can some one suggest how to start what will it requirement ?
