Java / JSF problem - label won't display properly

I ran into this a long time back and I know we solved it, but I can't recall what the solution was...

I am building a java server side program using JSF. On one of my pages I have a label component. When I navigate to the page, I want to dynamically assign text to the label. However, the first time the page is rendered, the label remains blank. If the page is re-displayed, the correct label is shown. As I recall, there is something that causes the text field to be ignored under some circumstances - but I don't remember how to force the modification to take effect. Can someone help or point me to the relevant documentation??

thanks very much,

nbc

Oh man... I love the idea of JSF, I hate programming for it, lol. What phase are you changing the label at? (Where are you assigning a new value to the label)

Java/JSF Label problem...

I'm trying to change the text in the pre-render phase. I'm using Netbeans as my IDE at the moment. I've been looking at moving to the Wicket framework, which might make things easier to work with, but I can't do it until I get at least one version of this system up and running...

thanks,

nbc
