JAVA: connecting to a pop3 mail server over SSL

Hi, I'm trying to create a client app that connects to a mail server that requires SSL connection. Anyone have had experience working with both ssl and javamail???

I already found one article in javaworld but apparently the example wouldnt work.

I'm using j2sdk1.4.2

do i really have to use javamail or i could just use sockets? How?

thanks...
