installing apache POI in linux


I downloaded apache POI and unzipped it , i copied and pasted the poi-3.1-FINAL-20080629.jar in the folder lib located on this path

usr/local/tomcat5/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/lib

but when i compile a java servlet i wrote to read an excel file , it gives me this message :

dexcel.java:4: package org.apache.poi.poifs.filesystem does not exist
import org.apache.poi.poifs.filesystem.POIFSFileSystem;
^
dexcel.java:5: package org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel does not exist
import org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel.HSSFCell;
^
dexcel.java:6: package org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel does not exist
import org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel.HSSFSheet;
^
dexcel.java:7: package org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel does not exist
import org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel.HSSFWorkbook;
^
dexcel.java:8: package org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel does not exist
import org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel.HSSFRow;


So i wonder if i have placed the POI jar file in a good place

Please help me

i found the solution , i set the POI jar file in classpath and after i compile successfully.

That is it

uxan: I've similar issued on Windows 7. But still not able to
resolved errors after specified in classpath
where poi-3.6-examples-20091225.jar is located at.
Could you please elaborate how you set the POI jar file in
classpath. Please provide example!
I am very grateful your help.
