How to get hardware info in C++ for linux

Hi,
I am working on porting a program that needs hardware info in C++ to linux. We use the windows.h library in windows to get hardware info such as HDD info, video card info, MAC address etc (altho i have found a post that explains how to get MAC address already).
But I would like to know how to get these types of things and what libraries I would need as I have no experience with linux system libraries.
Thanks in advance.

I believe that most of the information you want may be found by simply reading from the entries in /proc, but you could look at the source code for, for example, lshw to see how it was done there.
