How to check whether there's a CD / DVD mounted in C++?

Hi, I've been asked to do a CD / DVD rom checking with C++. It doesn't have to read the contents of the CD / DVD, but just to make sure the drive is working and mountable. To mount the CD / DVD, I'm using the auto mount from the windows manager. But how do I check whether the auto mount has mounted a CD / DVD with C++? I don't have any clue whatsoever. Doesn't need to read the contents of the CD / DVD, just wanted to check the drive is there and working.

Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance...
