How do I SSL?

Greets LQ,

I come to you today with a question regarding SSL encryption running on a webserver. My question is very broad in scope and I'm hoping for a simple answer. I do realize I may be posting this question in the wrong forum; if so, moderators please move it.

I am currently building a shopping cart solution for a small online book store for a client (Linux Apache Mysql Php) and we have decided that Paypal will not work correctly and my client now wishes to receive their customers Credit Card info directly. My plan is to set up a secure connection between server and client (using SSL?) and then do a one way encryption of the credit card number into the database.

I use a shared hosting service and I have noticed that for $30/year I can get a dedicated IP and for $45/year I can get a signed SSL Certificate. Apparently my webhost will set it up for me in a matter of minutes too.

So here is my question:
If I go ahead and have them set this up, do I merely just change the address of the shopping cart and database pages to HTTPS to enable the certificate? So for example the PROCEED TO CHECK OUT button would link to "https://website.com/entercreditcardinfo.php" instead of "http://website.com/entercreditcardinfo.php" ?

Any insight in the right direction would be very welcome and I thank you in advance.

God bless.

Storing credit cards? Start with PCI-DSS: https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org.../pci_dss.shtml
Then you'll probably be done.
