help with shell script

Hi,I'm getting into shell scripting,but i had a little problem,and I've narrowed it down to the following error.If I have the following script

Code:
#!/bin/bash

opt="Hallo"

if [ "$opt" = "Hallo" ]; then
        direc = "/var/www/html/Hallo"
fi

echo "$direc"
I get this error

Code:
./speel2.sh: line 6: direc: command not found
Whats wrong?surely i can assign new variables inside an if?I've tried $direc but that does not work as well..

Thanks

Hi,

This:

direc = "/var/www/html/Hallo"

Should be:

direc="/var/www/html/Hallo"

There should be no spaces around the equal (=) sign when you declare a variable.

Hope this helps.
