help:multimedia commands in linux (SCSI 3 protocol), howto's questions

Hello there, I'm currently studying Multimedia Commands in Linux. How would you access or use these code blocks (hex equivalents of devices) to make these work. Just an overview, an explanation or an example (like a simple code for accessing the dvd-rom tray) from experienced and experts on this such field would be greatly appreciated. Before I will dig-in deeper I just would like to know some comments and suggestions from here. Thanks!
