gurus,answer these 5!

Hello!

i have been developing a application for genome comparison
using C++ and glade/gtk+.i have a lotta questions.please help!

1.i installed a lot of "DEVEL" packages to successfully run
the autogen.sh script?This was to get the requisite .pc files
like libgnomeui.pc etc...
When the application is ready for release,do the users have to
also have to install all these countless packages for the
application to run?it would be really inconvenient for them,
and why hell should they need the devel packages if they just want
to use the app?can i for instance include these if reqd as source?

2.Is there a primer on the whole process of making a stand alone
application on linux?(preferably using C and gtk)

3.How do you make an RPM file out of the source files?and
dependencies?

4.How do you use a standard application as a backend?
in my application i need to plot a 2d graph,using gnuplot.How do i
make a call to the gnuplot application?better still i would like
to integrate the plot2d library of gnuplot with my application.how
can i do that?

5.what is the compression rate achieved after tarring and "bz2"ing
a source project?

thank you in advance,
dhananjay

1. they have to be installed if compiling from source
2. use the -static option with g++
3. krpm is a nice gui program that will build rpms for you
4. execve()
5. this depends ont he number of repeating bytes. for example in source code where keywords make up the majority of the files and function call and class names are repeated, there is a greater level of compression compared with random data ( cat /dev/random > randomfile ).

so as i understand it,if i make an rpm the users will not need all those packages?
"execve()" how does this work....also would you know bout just using the relevent library?
