Get caption of window in linux

I need to write a small code which uses the caption of current window.
How can I retrieve the caption?
I use red-hat 7.3 / 9

see : http://www.imagemagick.org/www/api.html (for code in C)
but if you just want do a shell script use the command 'import' from imagemagick package
