gedit nuisance

Is there a way to prevent Gedit from automatically scrolling back or forth the line being edited to the center of the screen? I am using the default version coming with Debian 5 and I find this "feature" is a real nuisance.

Has the "feature" being removed in Debian 6?

Thank you for your help.

Technically, gedit is the GUI text editor for the GNOME D.E. Any distro using GNOME as the D.E. would have gedit, so it's more of a GNOME issue than a Squeeze issue. Using GNOME 2.30.2 on Squeeze does not exhibit this behaviour (although I wish it would). As mentioned, it might be a plugin issue, or it's how gedit behave under the version of GNOME used by Lenny.
