gcc equivalent for Visual C++ function: PeekNamedPipe ()

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
How do I check, in a platform-independent manner, the status of a pipe (if it is ready or not) without waiting on the pipe until a character is available? (I want the call to return immediately with the status). MS visual C++ does it with the windows-specific function PeekNamedPipe(....). Is there something that can do the equivalent and be compiled by g++?

Thank You,
m3rc_2004

Take a look at `man stat`. That might help you out.
