Hi -
Im a newbie to linux and I want to start running a dedicated game server. Ive seen servers that people are able to start and stop from a webpage. How do they do that? Is there a way to make it so that I can set up a webpage with a link on it to start and stop my server (run the exec file). Or is there already pre made programs out there for this and where are they? Is there a command line would it be php or asp? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
well it's certainly not HTML. you can easily interact with the host server via a number of different languages, php, asp , cgi, xslt and others.... just a case of learning howto...
It might be better to try a far more secure system, maybe webmin, instead of your own untested coding. Or just engage in a remote session with your server, via ssh maybe?

Yeah bad choice of words, I should have said "execing a file from a WEBPAGE"...
Anyway I solved my problem...
exec ( <filename> )
in PHP works great!! Now the only problemn is gettting it to stop from the webpage
