EMACS won't work on unix from command line!

Ok, when I get onto UNIX via telnet from the command line in redhat linux 8, and try to run emacs, i get the following error:

emacs: Cannot connect to X server localhost.localdomain:0.
Check the DISPLAY environment variable or use `-d'.
Also use the `xhost' program to verify that it is set to permit
connections from your machine.

ok, so I added the UNIX's address into xhost, so now xhost will display the address of the account. It still won't work! Can someone help me out?

Thanks

try this:

$ emacs -nw

,----[ from the Emacs manpage ]
| -nw Tells Emacs not to use its special interface to X.
| If you use this switch when invoking Emacs from an
| xterm(1) window, display is done in that window.
| This must be the first option specified in the
| command line.
