dual boot defragmentation

My laptop is dual boot RH6.1 and win2k. Recently, in W2K I defragmented the hard drive and after that intermittently the machine would not boot but today the problem seems to have become permanent. I don't even get the lilo OS loader. I wonder if the master boot record was damaged during win2k defragmentation? I am a newbie and I don't really know much about the master boot record but it makes sense to me. The question is how do I fix it?

Well, assuming that your box boots directly into W2K, it would appear that your MBR has been over-written by Windows.
The easiest way to get lilo back up and running is to boot from a linux-boot-floppy (if you made one..)
and re-run lilo as root. I can't remember that was there a rescue-mode on
RH6.xx cd's.. If there is, then boot useing the CD into rescue-mode, then run chroot /mnt/sysimage, and THEN run lilo.
(Am I mixing up with RH8 right now? Guys?)
