Does anyone know how to use postfix in The LAN NOT having internet connection.

Hi,

I am doing spam filters as my Major project and for that i need to install a mail server on my computer.
I found out that sendmail or postfix are available..
but i dont know how to install them...

I am connected in a LAN... does not have internet connection....
SO, can i use the postfix or sendmail if i install it on my comp to send and receive mails from computers inside my LAN.

In short i just need to learn to use Sendmail or postfix without having an internet connection.

Of couse you can send mail in a network that is isolated (in your case, no internet). That's what labs are all about . When you send a particular piece of mail out, your dns resolvers will first query the MX record so that it will know which mail server is for that domain. Therefore, once you got postfix/sendmail set up, you need to set up a dns server.

By default, mail is stored in files - particularly /var/spool/mail/<username>. The messages are just appended on top of one another.
