I have downloaded but haven't tried Anjuta - it looks excellent though. I am used to VC++6 and I think this is pretty much the same thing, but with Linux instead of MS functionality.

yeah, anmjuta is brilliant if you like that sort of thing. there's also gIDE and glimmer does a reasonable amount of integration, but not a full ide. all Gnome apps
anjuta is great! thanks a lot. One small problem though, for some reason some of the menus are not functioning. Example.... I goto build and click compile...it doesn't work. All the options in the menu are in a bold text and none of them work.
Have you tried Code Warrior by Metrowerks? I've only used it for compiling C++ on Macs and PCs but from what I hear the Linux version is basically the same. It's not free but I like it.
