c/c++ programming in linux

hello,
i am trying to open a bitmap file (for that matter, any file) in my C program. I want my file to open irrespective of it's location. I have given complete file path. The opens only if it is located in the subdirectore of the directory where the main exe file resides. I want to just mension the file name in my code and linker should be able to locate it.
Can nay one help me please.
Thank you

The linker only locates library files automatically as it links your porgram to them. It won't help you with a bitmap file. You will have to give either a full path or a relative path to the file in your program.
