best way to draw lines on web pages

What's the best language to learn in order to draw simple lines and arcs on a web page? Right now I'm (worse than) entry-level at html and cgi scripting and that's all I know.

I'm leaning towards javascript. Just wondering if I'm on the right path. (I can't just do it with html and cgi scripting, can I?)

edit:
I think I'm gonna learn this unless somebody has a better idea:

It depends on what type of lines you need to draw. Your best bet it to learn CSS. CSS lets you specify style attributes for HTML block elements, lists, tables, paragraph, or any other HTML element you specify.

A good place to start is by learning HTML very well.

Then you should learn CSS well also.

JavaScript has the ability to draw to screen. You really should learn to write good HTML and CSS before jumping into java script.

Hi.

Since you already know HTML you'll be able to use SVG to draw static images (lines including) without javascript.

Another way

Forgive me if I'm being too simplistic and you have already tried this.

If the lines and curves are purely ornamental an easy way is to make suitable small image files, perhaps gif with transparent backgrounds and stretch and squeeze them to the size you need, defining their width and height in the img tag.
