Bash scripts?

Are bash scripts similar to dos batch files and if so do you open a text editor to write a script then put it somewhere so it will execute when you type in the file name to execute it? thanks

I`m a super linux noobie

yes but unlike dos you dont' need a file extension...for instance in dos you make your files .bat files...so an example would be "mytest.bat" with something simple coded...
in linux you dont' need a file extension, so if you wrote a script it wouldn't need a .bat ending, it would just be "mytest"....dont' get me wrong...you can add extensions...but they are unnecssary...

heres something you can look at to get yourself started

Shell scripts can be considered like DOS batch files.
Generally you are able to list a series of commands rather than write a complete program. As with batch files, there are some other things that can be done also.
This is a good quick howto on "that other site".
