automating update information


ok, here is the situation.

i need to download a file on a regular basis that is at a cdertain website.

then i want to run a parse program on the information in that file

so things i know how to do:

write the parser, set the script to run regularly, but i don't know how to have the script connect to the website. any ideas?

You might want to check out Perl ! It has a neat little package
called LWP. With this package you can do all sorts of stuff
a browser can do - even submit forms and stuff.

Just use wget:
wget http://blah.com/file.ext

1 line - just put that in a cron job.

to set something as cron.monthly do i just put the script in that folder?

Yes but I would tend to create a crontab file for the user that you want it to run as. Tak a look at this guide:

IT will be the same for MD 9.1
