audio video player using vlc codecs


hi all
i have an idea to develop a simple audio and video player..
using vlc ".so" files.., i have to develop some simple gui(GTK).. the gui window having 4-5 buttons..
play/pause,mute/sound,next, prev,playlist...
anybudy tried like this..(using other player's ".so" or "codecs")

is it possible?
how to do it..

any help it should be appreciable.
