HP-UX ioscan CDROM device path

We have an external NEC CDROM drive on our HP A class 9000. I'm trying to find the device name so I can then mount the CD-ROM. The instructions I've found on the www indicate that the device path should be listed like it is for the drives but it isn't. Is there something I've missed?

[HTML]

# ioscan -fnC disk
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=====================================================================
disk 3 8/16/5.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE NEC CD-ROM DRIVE
disk 1 8/16/5.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE WDIGTL WDE9100
/dev/dsk/c0t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t2d0
disk 2 8/16/5.6.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST39175LW
/dev/dsk/c0t6d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0

[/HTML]

HP-UX 11.11.

mount - ro /dev/dsk/cXtXdX /whateveryouwanttonamethemount

/dev/dsk/cXtXdX you get from ioscan
/whateveryouwanttonamethemount is a directory that you want to mount to. It has to be a valid directory mkdir /cdrom is popular

The device files in this circumstance should be /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 and /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

All three disks being shown belong to the same controller.
(HW Path: 8/16/5)

If the device files don't exist you may have to create them, however please do not overwite any existing files!

You should be able to create the files with:
Code:
mknod /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 b 31 0x000000
mknod /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 c 31 0x000000
If you run ioscan -fnC ext_bus you should see something like:
Code:
# ioscan -fnC ext_bus

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=================================================================
ext_bus   0  8/16/5    c720 CLAIMED     INTERFACE    SCSI C895 Ultra wide Single-Ended
The I shows the instance number for the hardware path 8/16/5 this gives you the c0 part of the c[x]t[x]d[x]

The cdrom in your ioscan example continues the hardware path to 8/16/5.0.0 the final two characters give you the t0d0 part making c0t0d0

as this is a CD-ROM on HP-UX the major number is 31 and as the path is c0t0d0 the minor number is 0x000000

Resolved - Thank-you

Just thought I'd post a follow-up to thank the responders and also in case this info is useful for anyone else in the future.

I had to create the device files and after adding them as suggested my ioscan looked good. Like this:

Code:
bash-2.04# ioscan -fnC disk

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description

=====================================================================

disk 3 8/16/5.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE NEC CD-ROM DRIVE

                        /dev/dsk/c0t0d0   /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

disk 1 8/16/5.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE WDIGTL WDE9100

                        /dev/dsk/c0t2d0   /dev/rdsk/c0t2d0

disk 2 8/16/5.6.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST39175LW

                        /dev/dsk/c0t6d0   /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0
Then I mounted the CD-ROM with this command:
Code:
mount -r /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /tmp/cd_rom
And all is good.

Thanks both for your help!!
