Does Mac OSX have Samba?

Is it possible to an OSX to be a file server like some Linux with a Samba server? Something browseable by windows. What are the choices?

Xamba has "Samba X" and some other stuff that looks like what you are looking for.

It was on Windows NT, I don't know if the newer versions support it or not. We had significant stability issues with it...

as much as i know it is somewhere additional available to be optionally installed from the installation cd/ im talking about xp and 2000 vefrsions, but what are you talking about?

Apple talk is equivalent to smb. Am i right?

Not in the slightest. Appletalk is a completely different protocol.

It does, however, offer similar services. If run over Ethernet (instead of the original serial bus), it's usually called "Ethertalk".
