Mepis instalation


Hey everyone I want to install mepis linux, I am currently downloading it at a slow rate (that's the internet connection here). Just wanted to ask something...I hate the grub bootloader...can I choose not to install it and after that boot my mepis with lilo ?

Um, tough call there. Mepis doesn't come with LILO already installed, only GRUB.
You could do a few things:
- Install Mepis without putting GRUB on your Master boot record, but then you probably couldn't boot into it. You'd need to install LILO from another distribution or something.
- Install GRUB in your MBR, then boot into Mepis and apt-get install lilo, then overwrite your MBR with LILO.

I would choose the second option if I were you. Personally, since just about every distro is using GRUB now, I just decided to learn how to use GRUB.

I also used to prefer Lilo over Grub because it seemed more accessible. Grub is the default with Mepis, and i've found it to be a very good program. you can always get Lilo through the repos' afterwords. Read up on Grub, you might find something you like
