xcompmgr installation problem

Hello, I'm trying to install xcopmpmgr but when I follow the steps:

cvs -d server:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xapps login
[No password needed, just press return]
cvs -d server:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xapps co transset
cvs -d server:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xapps co xcompmgr

cd xcompmgr
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/X11R6/lib/pkgconfig/
./autogen.sh

I get the following error when I run ./autogen.sh:

./configure: line 3992: syntax error near unexpected token `XCOMPMGR,'
./configure: line 3992: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(XCOMPMGR, xcomposite xfixes xdamage xrender)'

does anybody know what this is. I'm fairly new to linux and am having some trouble.

Just installed Mandrake 10.1

Welcome to Linux

The software you have checked out from CVS could be under development and not fully working yet. I'm assuming you have followed the instructions to download the source for xcompmgr, do they offer any assitance to contacting or searching the mailing-list of the software developers to see if this is a common problem with the software or your PC setup.

A syntax error suggests a problem with the source code and not the system setup. Have you tried checking out a more recent copy of the code from CVS to see if the problem is fixed?

Other than that, you could try using google to search for similar errors.

HTH
